CARTE VERTE
7 French and Danish artists have taken over the French Embassy in the Thott Palace, October 2024. Tiphaine Calmettes, Nina K. Ekman, Valentine H. Depointes, Maria Koshenkova, Edith Meusnier, Prune Nourry and Charlotte Thrane have been given carte verte – a ‘green license’ to inhabit the embassy space and offer their perspectives on topics such as overconsumption, global warming, pollution of the oceans, and climate change. The artists work in a wide range of mediums and practices. Some of them work consistently with scrap, recycled and upcycled materials. Old mattresses, deadstock yarn, discarded leather, and recycled glass from bottles from events at the embassy are examples of materials used for Carte Verte. Some of the pieces are site-specific and made specially for Carte Verte while all of them are carefully integrated in the space to intermingle with the interior of the salons - creating a distinct contrast between the 17th century baroque palais, contemporary art and the topic of the exhibition.
